2008 - The YAS visit to Jodrell bank. A grey sky can't dampen the excitement of seeing the Lovell telescope for the first time. It is parked in the horizontal position due to a damaged wheel, which will hopefully be replaced within a week. This is also the safest position for the dish during high winds. 2008 - The YAS visit to Jodrell bank. We had a personal guided tour of the Jodrell Bank site from Professor Ian Morrison. We were given tours of their labs, different parts of the site and telescopes, and various control rooms. Here you can see Ian in the main telescope control room with the Lovell telescope behind him. Thanks must go to the duty controller Andrew for allowing us to visit the control room on his shift - Thanks Andrew :-). Ian also presented two talks covering the history and achievements of the Lovell telescope, and also newer developments such as MErlin and the VLBA. Picture by Ian Reagan. |

2008 - The YAS visit to Jodrell bank. At the end of the day after the "Flight to Mars" in the 3D theatre, lunch, and our 2 - 1/2 hour tour and presentations, we took time to have a YAS group photo taken. 18 of the 22 attendees are captured here, the others were in the cafe at the time. All in all a great day made all that more special and enjoyable by Ian's excellent hosting and facinating and informative presentations. Picture by Ian Reagan. |

19th January 2008 - The YAS visit to Jodrell bank. This is a great image taken from the telescope control room showing the view of the Lovell telescope through the large windows. The control panel is the original one which was used before the telescope's overhaul in the 70's. It is now controlled using one or more computer terminals elsewhere in the control room. Thanks must go to the duty controller Andrew for allowing us to visit the control room on his shift - Thanks Andrew :-). Picture by Mike Pringle. |

19th January 2008 - The YAS visit to Jodrell bank. A group photo taken before we left the site. We have 21 of the 22 attendees here, with Mike the volunteer behind the camera. All in all an excellent day trip. Picture by Mike Pringle. |
| 5th April 2006 - Our regular YAS Public Star Party on the Knavesmire in York. We were visited by an excited troop of brownies who were able to see the Moon and Saturn through a few of our scopes including the big 12" Meade LX200 GPS. Despite the thin clouds the views of Saturn were quite excellent at times. It was great to have a huge queue waitng to look through the eyepiece. We were also treated to some songs and other brownie activities all in aid of keeping the cold wind at bay. | |
| 5th April 2006 - Our regular YAS Public Star Party on the Knavesmire in York. We were also visited by this nice lady and her daughters, who after viewing the Moon early on, came back later to see Saturn, and brought their neighbors with them too. All were able to see Saturn through a number of telescopes, and Martin was very grateful for the lend of the hat! | |

This image shows most of the line of telescopes which YAS had at Crayke. In all there were about 10 scopes on show and each had quese of visitors waiting to see various objects such as the Moon, Saturn, M42, M45, M31, etc. The worst of the light pollution visibale here was to the North of the field, leaving the southern views mainly unaffected. |

Our return to Crayke was greeted with rapidly clearing skies despite the day being mainly overcast. As we set up the scopes we know we were in for a great night of observing. The crowds turned out again and this time we could show them the sights of the night sky. |

Martin Dawson took this image of the Escrick Star Party showing ANdy's 4" skywatcher refractor and his own 5" Meade refactor. The night was very misty, but this caused very steady seeing conditions and the views of MArs, which was close to opposition were excellent. |

A panoramic view of the Crayke Star Party. Lots of Telescopes, lots of people, but few gaps in the cloud. A good time was had by all, despite the limited observing which took place. We will definitely have to visit Crayle again later in the year. |

Another photo from Crayke. A prospective observer looks at the business end of the YAS 12" LX200 GPS. All we need is some clear dark skies. |
